The Mudcastle

The Mudcastle is exactly what it sounds like, a hand built adobe brick castle set in flower gardens with ponds and waterfalls at Upper Moutere, about half an hour from Nelson. It is a genuinely unusual place to get married. Ceremonies can be held in the gardens or up in the castle turret, with room for up to 100 guests. Receptions move into the banquet hall, and with a marquee on the lawn the venue takes up to 170. Couples get exclusive use, so no other bookings are taken while you are there. The kitchen puts on everything from gourmet canapes and buffets to a full medieval banquet if that suits the theme. Glenys and the team handle the catering and the coordination on the day. Up to 16 guests can stay on site across three suites and five rooms, with breakfast included at hosted rates, which makes it easy for the wedding party to settle in for the weekend.
