Rutherford Hotel Nelson

Rutherford Hotel Nelson is the city's big hotel venue, on Nile Street West beside the cathedral steps. Six function rooms handle everything from small family dinners through to celebrations of several hundred, with a stated events capacity of up to 700 people, and several rooms open onto an outdoor courtyard for drinks and mingling. Ceremonies can be held in the courtyard, and Nelson Cathedral is only metres away for couples wanting a church wedding before walking across to the reception. All catering is done on site by the hotel's own kitchen team. The practical advantage is accommodation. Guests stay where the party is, with rooms, suites and apartments upstairs, so nobody needs a taxi at midnight.
